United States: Florida Bill Could See Telecoms Charges Double in Four Years
WMRC May 26, 2003
Florida Governor Jeb Bush put his name to a bill on 23 May 2003 that could herald the biggest telecoms rates increase in the state's history. The state administration says the bill, which will see local call rates double in four years, is designed to increase competition, modernise the regulatory framework and create jobs in the state. The government and telecoms lobby groups also point out that the price increases are a tariff-rebalancing exercise, which will bring benefits in the guise of lower long-distance calls. Despite these reassurances, a majority of the state's consumer groups were dismayed that the bill has been approved, expressing fears that the services would actually worsen, while lower-income customers could be forced to give up their fixed-line phones altogether due to higher tariffs.

They will milk the wired line for all it is worth before technical obsolescence hit them!!!
