I think scientists have already made the link - civets carry the disease, animal handlers who sell civets for meat have antibodies to SARS but never came down with the serious pneumonia, and the earliest people to have SARS included three chefs in the region who sell cooked civet meat. Also, live SARS virus was found in the feces and mud in the "wet" markets, which are filthy.

Looks like QED to me.
