The notion that people wrote the bible and not God is a modern day one and is another example of history's effect on religion, imo. Was there ever a claim that the Bible was the actual word of God, written by God? I know the claim about the Quran, but there it is easy why Muslims think so - God is talking about himself and how you should worship him in 1st person singular in the Quran.
