Not really part of the strategy. Just a surprise that it proved itself, on a small scale, to have been a good strategic decision if it'd been one.

Actually, that just confuses it more.

At iHub (and eventually here), the business model is that we charge for access to two types of features:

1. Stuff that's really gee-whiz, neato, makes for a whole lot more useful interface. Like displaying a particular person's posts, in batches of 50, in their entirety, no matter the board they were written on.

2. Stuff that's unusually expensive in terms of computing horsepower. Search is the biggie. Mucho-expensive. Spellchecking also has CPU cost, but nowhere near as high. Filtering was also horrifically expensive, but is less so now since imposing limits on its use.
