MSFT resource issue.

I have a Dell 450 with 256 meg ram( just ordered 128 more for the limit). About a week ago I ran into a problem openning up Excel 2000 where it freezes (and subsequently crashes the whole system as I can't shut down the one program - ctrl, alt delete ends up doing the crash once its frozen).

While I'm hoping its just a ram memory resource issue which can be solved by purchasing more memory I'm under the assumption its a software conflict. Not sure if its due to my NAV. While I stop virus monitoring the system and then retry I still have the same issue.

Now I reinstalled excel 2000 and it worked once before the problem came back and reinstalling a second time did not good.

The problem 1st started when I had my schwab trading sofware open, with excel, word and explorer.

I checked for viruses and it came up clean.

I actually plan to upgrade my system but not until August - November time frame.

Anyone have any ideas how to help.

Thanks in advance.

Tim
