Yes, and do you think he stood up in front of the people and told then he hates everyone big time.

Actually he didn't make an effort to hide it. He wrote and spoke about how the Jews were the source of Germany's problems all the time, long before he came to power.

Yes, and for some time now, there have been conservatives talking in private or in books about restricting the freedom of speech and suggesting that we need to take more aggressive action against nations that we may think are dangerous or don't conform to our way of thinking.

Over 70 years have passed since Hitler wrote Mein Kampf, do you think honestly anyone in the 21st century would be so candid or open if they held views as non mainstream or as unacceptable as Hitler's were? I think we have at least learned that.

Besides, Mein Kampf was a little known book when Hitler was elected into office. Then, as now, people don't look very carefully into the background of their leaders. That's why we depend on the media to do the digging. Back then as now, the media didn't always catch all the negatives.

Even in this day of the internet, I was unaware of some disturbing neocon views until very recently. And these are people who either are very close to the president, or who have disciples that are very close. And they have been writing these views with growing regularity for nearly 20 years. However, these views are kept hidden from the public for a reason.......they are not mainstream views.

But more the difference is not just that the vast majority of conservatives do not talk of such hatred and desire for violence against minority groups as much as is it that the vast majority of conservatives do not have such hatred and desire to abuse, torture and kill. Hitler did "start out" his political career with such hatred.

Again, only an idiot would expose his views like Hitler did. Since then, we have learned to keep those views hidden.

Serial killers typically don't start out as serial killers.......they work their way up to it.

So now conservatives are serial killers in the making? You've gone off the deep end.

Nice try! I was giving an example of how people evolve into certain roles over time. I have never once said or suggested that conservatives were serial killers.

That may be true although some could argue that people like Rumsfeld have consorted with people like Saddam.

Every post WWII president and probably many of them before WWII has dealt with despots and tyrants. And of course if the president deals with them so does the cabinet. "Realpolitic" might be ugly at times but it isn't Nazism.

Not all presidents dealt with Saddam types in the way they did under the Reagan administration. How do you know where Rumsfeld's real views are? I would not have been able to consort with Saddam in even an advisory role. Would you have?

I think it behooves us to pay attention to what the people in power are doing and who is behind them.

I agree with that but watching them and being concerned about their actions and ideas, doesn't mean we have to say they are like Hitler unless they actually demonstrate that they are.

Don't you think that by the time they demonstrate what they are that that might be too late?

Also its not just conservatives that need to be watched.

Of course.
