"Funny, last time I checked this was the "Qualcomm - Coming into Buy Range" thread."

Last time I checked, Qualcomm was not going after the fixed-mast 5mb/sec and up wireless IP market.

"Not everything is first put in place by a massive build out of central infrastructure by some all-powerful "carrier". Not when it comes to the history of human communication"

That may have been true in the 70's. Today, I enjoy great wireless coverage and I expect it to get even better next year.

Am I the only one here who remembers carrier struggling in the late 90's to keep subscribers from bailing on them before infastructure was fully deployed?

The Airtouch/Verizon commercials with an Ericsson phone showing "NO NETWORK" on its display before the driver chucks it out the back of his convertible driving down a rural highway?

After 9/11/2001, it would be foolish of you to claim subscribers are willing to risk not having coverage for voice.

Only the indebted with no positive cash flow cows leftover from the Internet bubble are trundling after rob_v and 4G.

The purpose of Intel's Centrino PR campaign is to build interest in mobile data applications that require its abilities.

WiWhatever demand growth must happen or you will face waning interest and shrinking hotspot coverage for WiWhoCares.

"if one is truly thinking long term, sometimes it pays to watch where the cows tread"

Then, you need to see an optometrist and start reading 10K's instead of Intel/IEEE press releases.

Coverage and consumer interest are far more crucial than specifications and "open standards" for the simple reason coverage is very expensive and a primary concern of your future customers.

I see no visible change in customer sentiment that justfies 4G deployment featuring positive cash flow.
