To All, From Tom Lish, I just received an alert from mercury mail about IBM and MOT planning to announce today (Aug 4) 2 new kinds of microprocessors that they say are 10 to 25% faster then Intel's fastest pentium II chips. The alert notes that the chip is the PowerPC750 formally code-named author, with a new design suitable for desktops or portables starting at 266 mHz. The companies also plan introduce a version of their 604e microprocessor which operates at 350mHz. I first thought this was only for apple computers but after reading the text of the message, I not so sure. The message was taken from Dow Jones. I have not seen any mention of such a microprocessor on this thread. Anybody have any information? Is this old news to most and did I just miss a block of posts? thanks in advance for any info.
