Will SI ever have a search function that covers the whole database? I think it only searches 6 months or a year back. Would be nice to search back to 1997.

Hard to say. I'd like to do it that way, and that's a goal, but I don't know yet how achievable that goal is.

To start with, I'll be using the same method I use on iHub with minor modifications.

iHub has just a little over a million posts. On the current database server, searches work pretty well. They didn't used to.

I won't know until I do it, just how well it's going to work when there are about 19 million posts to deal with.

As I said, the goal will be to have all messages show up in searches. If the performance isn't good enough, we'll have to temporarily reduce the universe of messages it can search while developing a different method that'll work faster.

No, Jon, I'm not gonna buy the Google solution. <g>
