Plug and Play

100,

<< The Samsung SGH-i500 sounds like what I'm waiting for. Any idea how long before VZ qualifies it for sale. >>

Not a clue. I suspect PCS might qualify it first. Products tend to spend quite a while in Verizon's conformance labs.

<< Why don't the phones come pre configured/initialized and all that sort of stuff. So I can just go to a menu and select what I want to use and have it downloaded automatically/immediately and start using it. >>

That's the challenge carriers face. I suspect that one reason Verizon doesn't yet have a consumer oriented 1xRTT data offering yet. There is a real potential strain on customer support resources if the offering isn't plug and play. Perhaps 18 months ago I bought the mobile office kit for for the 6035, and killed a rainy Saturday trying to connect my Dell Lattitude laptop, and have it recognize the phone as modem. No success. A week later I was at my midwest headquarters and one of my crack IT techs spent 4 hours on the phone with Verizon support (and Dell) trying to get it connected. No success. A month later Verizon withdrew the kit for use with the 6035. I didn't return the kit and it will be interesting to see if the supplied serial cable works with the the 7135.
