I believe the inclusion of FPGAs covers PLDs.

Revenue = Price * unit volume.
Profit = (Price - Cost) * unit volume.

The positive assumpions are that "dirt cheap" will mean very high unit volumes. Chips everywhere and in everything. Very high volumes with unit growth faster than ASP contraction will result in revenue growth. That environment will be very profitable for those producers whose cost is less than the price.

I don't know if there is any competition to Cadence.
