I can summarize my own "liberalism" thus - I did not vote in 1972, my first Presidential election, because I thought McGovern would be a disaster but Nixon was a crook. Eventually I became a Libertarian, but became increasingly uncomfortable with their inability to come up with meaningful solutions, e.g., the argument that all roads and highways and bridges should be privately owned and users pay tolls is insane. When Reagan was elected, I did not vote for him - I worked for the Libertarians - but came to love him as a person, and believe that he was as close as we would come to Libertarianism in my lifetime, which is a sad commentary on the US government, in my opinion.

And haven't liked another President until Dubya. Who is far from Libertarian.
