well, a while ago I looked at a whole mess of factors including GM and mkt share (from Gartner) and replacement rates... etc. and I determined that Cisco was fairly undervalued relative to Dell... and then, Dell stock went up.

I really think this options issue is weighing on Cisco stock. Yes Cisco is a big user of options, but this matter is going to get resolved sooner rather than later and Cisco is going to cut back no matter the outcome, imo. So its something of an artificial drag on Cisco stock at this point. Of course if Cisco continues to grant excessive options, in the face of no growth, then Cisco deserves to get whacked in the valuation area. But I don't think there is any chance they won't curtail their grants, regardless of whether expensing is required. There is just no way around it, shareholders are demanding it. There is the long term effect of less options of course but that won't come into play for at least 4 years.
