Hi, Stephen. I tend to agree with Dave Burstein in your attached article, where he states:

"Thursday's announcement was 'politically timed' to influence the final wording of the FCC broadband ruling. He said he believes the Bells are genuinely committed to starting to lay fiber, but cautioned that they will take several years to get beyond trials."

It's interesting to see that the RFP Consortium has created a new acronym, or moniker, FTTP standing for Fiber to the Premises in order to differentiate their initiative from those of existing overbuilders putting in FTTH/FTTB/FTTC. You can call it an acronym for consolidation, I guess.

There is quite a bit of excitement on the optical component/system boards right now. Investors from every point on the optical spectrum are hoping that their favorite stocks will get a piece of the action.

Personally, I think that only those products that are already tried and true will be considered by these giants. They're not about to speck in anything from a pioneering perspective. The model that they most likely will go with is full service area network, or FSAN, which is based on a SONET backbone with ATM to the home. Whereas, many of the current FTTH overbuilders have favored Ethernet, for the most part. We shall see.
