<Where are the real leaders when we need them>
In Watergate, it was the newspapers, mainly the liberal Eastern press, that dug and dug and didn't give up, till the story was out.
In England now, it's the PM's own party, ministers who resigned rather than support the war.
But, in America, since Watergate, we haven't punished our Presidents when they lie. Reagan got away with Iran-Contra. Clinton got away with lying to a Grand Jury, which is a felony.
Today, the Democrats are cowed. The public still approves of the President, by huge margins. We get the government we deserve. |
