When did "My Bad" get into the language?

I think it morphed into the english language perhaps just
before "Phat" became hip and as the phrase "Chill Out"
became old and left the language.

Actually I think "Chill Out" is considered "old skool" now.

I'm usually pretty up on stuff in pop culture

Once you start having kids, being hip becomes a very
slippery slope. It's hard to keep up. You get that 6-7
year stretch where everything is Sesame St., Rug Rats,
Sponge Bob, etc. It sort of lulls you into a false sense of
security. Then all of sudden they come home one day from
school and hit you with a few words or phrases that are
completely new and strange to you.

It happened to me just the other day. He threw a new
phrase at me and I was stumped. Dumbfounded.

My son could see the sweat forming above my eyebrows.
Suddenly I could feel my hairline recede another inch and
grey hairs and began popping into my goatee (which is not
even close to being hip by at least two years). He could
sense I didn't have a clue of what the phrase meant. Then
it all started happening real fast.

The slippery slope.

It slipped out that I hadn't realized that Britney and
Justin Timber Lake broke up a while ago.

My coolness factor slipped a notch.

I tried to recover quickly.
I adjusted my pants to make them look baggy and let my
underwear waistband stick out. Then I ran as fast as I
could to the TV in my office, locked the door and spent the
rest of the day watching MTV.

Guess what.

MTV doesn't even show videos anymore.

They show Cribs and a show called Punk'd.

Be ready for the word "Punk'd". I think it means "I fooled
you." Either that or it means "Suprise, You are on Candid
Camera" because that is what the show is about. They play
practical jokes on today's hip singers and actors.

So anyway. Be prepared. You have two young ones, right?

You are showing signs of slipping. Turn off CNBC and put
on Dawson Creek before it is too late.

My oldest is 7 years old and my coolness factor is slipping
fast and I think he might be getting the hint...

I'm just trying to pass on what I've learned from one dad
to another. Just ask some of the older dudes around here.

See you later. I'm off to find someone good to pierce my
nipples.

Oh yeah. One other thing. You have to trade in that
Michael Jordan jersey for one that says Iverson.

Sorry for this message being "off the hook".
