We are on different pages, NC.

Imminent threat of attack was never a major theme.

We were definitely watching different presentations at the UN by Powell, different speeches by Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld, etc. The point of all that was that we must invade now because his current threatening supply would only grow. And I gather you didn't notice all the talk of making certain that US troops had wmd protective gear. Etc.

As for this being an intelligence failure, I disagree. It's a political failure best I can tell. Apparently what happened was that when the intelligence didn't seem ominous enough about wmds or ties to Al Q, the political types bent the intelligence to say what they wished to hear.

As for waiting and see, if you are arguing we need to do that because some evidence of wmds might well be found, I won't disagree with that. That is always a possibility, even two or three years from now. But the case the administration went to war on was that there were large supplies of wmd and they, this administration, knew where they were. Hmmm.
