No, I don't. The unfortunate truth is, all this jingoistic glorification of death is popular. The present political, social climate reminds me a lot of the 19th Century. The NeoCons want to Bear The White Man's Burden, bring civilization to the savages, and stuff it down their throats with our bayonets. Kipling would feel right at home, as a reporter for Fox News. He wouldn't have to change a single bit of his paternalistic, racist, militarist beliefs.
There is no media conspiracy, they are just responding to their audience. The Jessica Lynch story is just as fun, and just as real, and just as popular, as Men In Black. |
