John,

I've refrained from going down the Goldman, DB, SSB et al route but I do share your feelings about the perceived principles of how those folks play the game. I try to stay out of that sandbox because it's all well beyond my capabilities. Not being a lawyer, I see that situation more as something one has to endure. As you say, their job is to "make a market".

With respect to the folks around here, I think they also like to make a "little" market. Although, you're right it takes a lot of rowboats to push around a battleship.

SI folks are nothing more than minnows among the whales. They just swim in and out of the waves coming off the big frolicing beasts. It's all kind of like a herd of sheep. But being part of this herd requires a bit more astute knowledge (probably of a technical nature) than just knowing how to gnaw on grass all day.

An agenda to flush may be implemented in unethical ways. Piling onto such an agenda has the risk of being perceived as having one's rowboat aligned with perfidious tugboats. In that way, some folks around here may well be nothing more than "little" Crammers.

How does the picture of Judas-like myrmecophila hiding in a Trojan-horse strike you?

I agree with Rob on the fact that 3G has been fractured by the folks who are building the wireless universe. However, I don't agreed with him that such means the demise of Qualcomm. In the end, diverse 3G/4G wireless capabilities will be good. The interest of all parties is vital to any developing technology. It grows the pie and provides more manageable steps to bring key players to the table.

It's become most evident that moving directly to cdma was too big of a step for many of the past technology giants. It is much better to have the market evolve more slowly than have the big players swirl down the sewer trying to compete. If only wall street would get onside this thought all technology investors would be much better off. But as we have all recently learned, it is most dangerous to expect the obvious. Haven't we?

Qualcomm will compete with all comers and prosper by bringing the power of cdma to everyone's wireless efforts. Somewhat like the politics of GSM, cdma has traits that will make it a dominant mobile, ubiquitous, power efficient world-wide offering.

Having multiple access techniques plays into the hands of Qualcomm. They have a proven ability to deliver chips which simplify the building of complex, integrated wireless devices. Multiple standards, frequencies, techniques or whatever only add to this key strength and enhance it's true value.

Regards,

Trevor

ps I've had you on ignore for months so I can only speculate on what you are so right about.
