Conservatives do recognize that different crimes can be more or less severe. They also recognize that perjury is a relatively severe crime.

Your two statements above confirm what I said earlier.....conservatives do not distinguish crimes based on their severity. Perjuring yourself by denying that you had sex when, in reality, you had would not receive nearly the same punishment that someone else would receive had he perjured himself by denying he had killed someone when, in fact, he had.

Assuming that no WMD are found, what should be Bush's punishment?

The political hit he will take. Lying should properly cause such a hit, but it isn't a crime unless its under oath. If the hit is enough for him to lose his reelection bid then that will be a more severe punishment then most politicians get for lying.

I agree.

I don't disagree but before the war started, this was not the reason the war was deemed necessary. Therefore, I find its sudden surfacing as the reason to topple Saddam somewhat suspect.

Suspect of what? The reason was mentioned, even if it was not given as much weight as WMD.

I think its brought up a lot now because the WMD have not been found. That's what makes its authenticity suspect.
