The "does anybody really believe" line is astonishingly popular around here, and about as rational as the associated and equally popular "Rummy wouldn't lie to us" line. Given its popularity and the way things like that seem to work, I got to presume that that particular train of "thought" is making the rounds of the punditry these days. For an alternate explanation, which, unlike the "does anybody really believe / Rummy wouldn't lie to us" line of "reasoning", actually seems to have some evidence behind it, I'd recommend reading the Newsweek article quoted in #reply-18644631 . Or, you can take Rummy's line on faith, that wouldn't exactly be unusual or anything.
