It's interesting that Bloom thinks Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy is a literary work on the level of Shakespeare. I was about a third of the way into Blood Meridian when 9/11 happened. I haven't looked at it since, it is a very violent book. Not just simple violence, but lurid and vivid violence.

I don't know what to make of that. I like Cormac McCarthy a lot, especially his Border trilogy, but is he on the level of Shakespeare.....?
