OT There are horror stories everywhere. The Canadian situation is much better than what the millions of uninsured Americans endure. In any case, what alarms me with the US system is that we are spending a much larger proportion of our GDP on health care than any other western country and have a lot less to show for it in our health statistics. Our statistics are about average across the board -- even Cuba rivals some of our stats. Statistics, rather than anecdotes, is an objective way to evaluate a health care system, and ours gets failing grades compared to Canada and Europe, especially given our level of spending compared to theirs. What is even more alarming is that we are a relatively young country compared to Europe. I dread to see what happens when the boomers start hitting medicare, if the present system continues.
