I agree with you, although it seems like I am totally against this law, I'm not really. I do have a problem with the smokescreen that gets created whenever somebody tries to defend it, however. The fact is there is largely one group in favor of prop 13, and that is those that benefit from it. Everybody else which is any newer homeowner, younger people and tech workers primarily, hate this law.

If helping grannie keep her home is the big issue (it shouldn't be too much of a concern, seniors are the wealthiest demographic in the country after all)... but anyway if that is the big deal then fine, limit prop 13 to single primary residence, no grandfathering, no investment properties, no commercial RE.
