BRINGING BUSH DOWN: First, the media must be made unafraid...

ShilohCat,

Re: Mr. Rove and his marionette will suffer a backlash of enormous proportions. The question is, when? And what finally triggers it?

This WMD flap is certainly big enough to bring Bush down. Today's session of the House of Commons with Blair under fire will be a good start.

One of the things that has to happen is for the Washington press corps to sense that they aren't committing career suicide by attacking the President. Because they all know that Rove and his minions can and will destroy careers at the drop of a hat.

So what you'll find, I believe is a situation where all of a sudden the press corps will move in a herd like fashion once they see that Bush is wounded, as he most likely will be on the WMD lies.

Here's a good sign that this may be beginning to happen:

msnbc.com

While Michael Isikoff, the third listed author of this article has been bravely jabbing at the Bushies over the 9/11 cover-up for over a month now, this is the first I've seen Evan Thomas's imprimatur on some decidedly critical writing about the Bushies. I've recently seen Thomas on the Charlie Rose show and his nose had a decidedly umber cast at the time. Maybe he's getting a little courage. That's what it is going to take.

Helen Thomas has become a voice in the wilderness. Most of the White House press corps are still willing sycophants and scribes for Karl Rove's mad schemes. But they all know that they are part of a vast conspiracy of deceit. They only need to know that they won't be fired for telling the truth, and maybe they will come around.

*******
In Congress, remarkably we have a Republican, Senator John Warner scheduling hearings on WMD intel. This is a pretty interesting development. The Democrats, with a few exceptions seem to remain spineless. I'm disgusted with Tom Dashle's inept leadership right now. He's being a complete pantywaist. We need some real leadership. Bob Graham may be able to draw some of Bush's blood with his insistence on 9/11 information. Maybe Fritz Hollings will have the nerve to take on Bush. Somebody's got to replace Daschle. He's pathetic.
