It is more than that. There are amazing things done, sometimes. Fairly recently, for example, there is Pedro Almoldovar's "All About My Mother", Eric Rohmer's "Autumn", Roberto Benigni's "Life is Beautiful", not to mention "American Beauty", "Being John Malkovich", and "Vanya on 42nd Street", among others. Even among those films with broader appeal, there is "What Planet are You From?", "Gladiator", and "The Matrix"......
