Watch those outstanding shares when considering earnings growth. Here is what NSCP reported as a 52% increase in earnings:

Net income 2Q 1997 $8.8 million, or $0.10 per share,
Net income 2Q 1996 $5.8 million or $0.07 per share

But, if you consider that there were 91 million shares vs. 87.9 million in 1996 and calculate the increase in eps you only get 47%.

The absolute numbers are meaningless. You have to consider the per share numbers. I think the SEC should make it mandatory to report increase percentages based on per share earnings. Especially since there is so much attention to valuing a company based on there growth rate. Is NSCP worth a 47 p/e or a 52 p/e.

Oops!, Excuse me. Why quibble over pennies. It probably deserves a 103 p/e like it already has.<g>

Thanks,
Britt
