re:What exactly are those national interests? And why is world opinion unimportant?

WMD, which everyone has stated time and time again he had - for over a decade. It's not like Bush made this up, the issue of whether Iraq had them was even before Clinton came to office. The UN stated they had them,

The UN did not state that. Why do you think they wanted to send in weapons inspectors? The UN, like everyone else except Bush, Blair and Spain, were unsure.

Iraq admitted they had them.

No they did not.....they said they had destroyed them all.

Saddam's direct support of terrorism

To my knowledge, Saddam did not directly or indirectly support terrorism. The administration has made that allegation but has had trouble proving that one too.

and instability in the region,

The whole region is a mess and has been for some time with or without Saddam. Not a reason to keep the guy but he can't be faulted for its instability.

one example being his "gift" of $20K to PLO bombers families.

So are the Saudis and Syrians and probably every other Arab in the region.

When our national interests are at stake world opinion is not the highest priority.

WMD? He didn't have rockets to get them here so if he had them, they would have had to have been hand carried.

Again I repeat, by letting the weapons inspectors do their job, we would have saved American lives and in excess of $75 billion. Aren't they in our national interest?
