Tom, that was an interesting read.

I do wonder though whether we're seeing something new - new for us born in the 20th century.

I'd be interested to see a chart that compared the US markets with those of Spain, England, France, and Germany during their imperialistic days.

Did the Spanish economy prosper when they liberated the gold from the Inca?

Did the British and French benefit from liberating the furs, fish, and forests from the native North Americans?

Someone needs to develop a chart to show whether a debt-ridden economy has ever been able to successfully liberate itself out of the hole it's dug.
