Yes, slowly the end-game is approaching for "it is a cost of doing business".
One thing is sure, not many manufacturing costs nor revenues will come the way of UK, despite ARM and Symbian, but the auction-costs are not that easy to get rid of (as you pointed out, another round of costs due to tax-write-offs and no consumersyet involved, just more of basic destruction of "value")
One reason I do not see UK as a very typical 3G-land, although they try their best in terms of media-stories.
Le Battery is obviously still searching for his basic, unstrung VU-meter, but those guys are sometimes needed, too (at least as a lowest common denominator and reference)
Cannot but wait for when the EU cavallery will have to ride out again to sort out those auction costs, to avoid them them being moved to the "New Europe" or any other market.

However, WLAN is great for home usage amd OFDM is really smart for huge downstream data-speeds, as soon as the need for them is there.
Btw, the forth finnish digi-TV license is now more or less reserved for mobile phones.
Soon I can watch C-SPAN out in the garden or the park, or just hook up to my DSL desktop. (btw, one funny thing is if you can get a whole MatriX II movie onto a 128-256MB memory card of a 3650, while CSPAN Washington Journal only takes 64MB, three hours)
