People make "wrong turns" all the time, so while "left is wrong" may have no absolute meaning, it certainly has meaning in context.

The same is true with murder because murder is defined as a "wrongful killing". Thus "murder is wrong" is true because it is a tautology: "wrongful killing is wrong". Try getting agreement, however, over which particular killings are to be considered murder and which are not and one quickly discovers that opinions vary considerably on the subject both individually and culturally, and these opinions clearly change and evolve over time.

The crux of the matter here is what does "self interest" really mean? If one believes that each of us are truly separate and independent entities then whether one believes in a policeman God or not there are moral dilemmas which follow from that worldview. If there is no final arbiter then you've well articulated the problems of that view. However, if there is a final arbiter then one has to consider the stories of early Spanish missionaries in the New World who would baptize native children and immediately dash their heads onto rocks thus ensuring the "pagan" children's immediate entry into heaven. How does one argue that this practice was "wrong"? Did the children not enter paradise? It's the same problem one has arguing the morality of theologically-driven suicide-"martyrdom" today. Within the context of a particular worldview moral dilemmas can always be found.
