Rise of the Dragon, Descent of the Eagle

As the Western world descends variously into protracted war, economic war, economic suicide, and overall social-democratic ruin, one of the largest and oldest nations on the planet has rediscovered the blessings (and virtues) of prosperity. As China unabashedly dismantles the gridwork of its nominally-Communist 20th century legacy it is finding, underneath the rot, a society of productive and discplined people who, allowed to flourish in relative liberty, are driving the Chinese economy past the current most-successful-to-date: the increasingly debt-ridden and bureaucracy-hobbled United States of America.

Only the most cynical observer can delight at the downfall of the United States, and likewise only the most cynical can be distressed by China's emergence as a land of growth and prosperity, not to mention cultural and political freedom.
