BT Plans Internet, Video Alliance - Paper
LONDON - British Telecommunications is expected to announce an alliance with Japan's Fujitsu and France's Alcatel that could revolutionize the telephone network, the Sunday Telegraph said.

The venture will allow BT to carry video and internet services on enhanced telephone lines, and the link-up with the two companies is expected to be announced later this month.

According to the paper, Fujitsu and Alcatel will supply the equipment and introduce Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Loops (ADSL) into the 'phone network. The service will at first be available only in large cities.
