you, being from a rural area, perhaps are not aware that this leg of the Triple Crown is being run in NewYork...

NY is run/owned by Paddy's friends and neighbors, who, in a polite way of saying it, are NOT concerned with fairplay and equalness for all

as far as this race goes, should it have been contested in a civilized society, say such as Virginia or Maine or Vermont or Rhode Island or Wisconsion, I would not be "asking what it is that Pat's neighbors are wagering" ...
