Hi Eric Jhonsa; Re the comparison between the fall of Beirut and the fall of Baghdad.

The difference is that the Americans never conquered Baghdad. The city is still controlled by Iraqis, except for a few buildings. The Iraqis in control of Baghdad are commonly called "looters". And we haven't disarmed them. They're running around with all kinds of stuff.

The basic problem with the execution of this war is that the military has limited US casualties by keeping US soldiers out of harms way. But the consequence is that Iraq is not controlled by the US in any meaningful way.

Contrast the current situation with what the Israelis did. They set up road blocks and slowly moved them through the city, disarming people as they went. The US effort is completely ineffectual, but as far as lives lost, our technique is much cheaper.
