The articles that are being published on the SCO lawsuit, including the one in today's L.A. times--but that's just one of many--are reporting rampant speculation that Microsoft is at least a friendly ally to that whole stupid process if not a major behind-the-scenes instigator. (Not to brag, but I went on record here with that suspicion the day SCO announced they had retained David Boeis, before warning letters were sent or suits were filed.)

But what I wonder is what Sun management REALLY thinks about that suit, privately. Naturally they can't do anything but oppose it publicly; they can't afford to side with Microsoft, they can't afford to alienate any portion of the Unix community which overlaps with the Linux community, and so forth.

But I'm not too sure how Linux helps Sun either; their story on it has never been anything but confusing and ambivalent as far as I can see. Maybe it's a good thing for SUNW if SCO manages to get enough FUD on Linux so that some larger IT shops become hesitant to rely on it. Bad for IBM, bad for MSFT...equals good for Sun? Maybe.
