Falling new highs, rising new lows, increasing downside volume, deteriorating A/D line, among others. If price goes up or stays flat and those things deteriorate, that's distribution, IMHO; if price goes down and those indicators hold up, that's accumulation.
We've had some deterioration in the Nasdaq in the last week, but it hasn't been so broad as to be a major problem yet. New highs on both exchanges hit new highs for the move on Friday, which is a positive divergence, I think. On the other hand, the weak upside volume all weak was a negative, probably caused by the big caps lagging.
