they moved the db to sql server, which last I looked still had page level locking (an arcane approach that results in way too many deadlocks)- my theory is the move to msft db products killed the performance. Of course SI is more of a garage-sized business these days so no reason to pay huge money for oracle licenses. But none of the serious web shops run on msft, including Dell so there you go.
