"Vietnam-vintage F4" I was imagining a flight of A-10 Warthogs. Ugly in a very guy-cool sorta way. Wings like a tongue depressor, but taht 30mm Gatling gun is JUST the thing for opening up a nice parking slot at the mall on Christmas Eve. Or homogenizing an HMO. I saw video of A-10s doing their thing in the Gulf. Plane flies along at a leisurely 200 knots,then it staggers in mid-air as its jet thrust is cancelled-and-then-some by the tongue of flame&smoke coming out of its nose. Seconds later a sort of rising braaaapp is heard: the gun firing and spinning up simultaneously. The slo-mos of tanks getting creamed look very Coppola.
