Running Two Monitors from a Laptop?

Hi

I currently run a W98 Dell P2 box with two video cards so I can have two monitors side-by-side and linked so my mouse can drag stuff from one monitor to the other. It is like having a 17"x34" inch screen!

Is it possible to do this with a laptop or am I forced to buy a laptop (so I can travel) and then keep my current system as a second monitor and network them to share files? A girlfriend has an XP Laptop that I've tried to make work with a 2nd monitor but all it seems to want to do is be a duplicate, not a 2nd monitor.

I really like having a single keyboard and mouse.... but I would probably travel more if I had a good laptop.

Thanks
