That would certainly cut down on the thread bloat, if posters were only allowed to express an opinion on events in places where they have lived for years.

Consider this : Take a look at the words between me and Ike on Ike's thread. Ike is of Pakistanini descent, I am of Indian descent.

I do my best to not confuse government policies with interpersonal issues across countries (now having 3 passports thats a good idea for me!).

Re Savarkar/Gandhi: Indian Politics today is a lot different to 1947 days : In those days Congress Party was the dominant player as the representative of winning freedom from Brits - and Gandhi was the KingPin, though never a formal politician. Today, things are a bit different. The Central Government is more likely than not, a coalition of different parties. What is wrong with such a diverse structure in a nation like India ? Is that not what democracy is about ?

BTW, Your carping on Hindus vs Muslims is not valid. One of my best friends in India practices the Muslim faith, and I was born into the Hindu faith. Its a long story, but we and others like us, get along fine and to drive the point home - I have immediate family that practices the Hindu, Muslim and Christian faiths. Religion has no part in most government policy.
