Then why, on the official website of the BJP, in the section under "BJP philosophy", do they have an article that talks about "the exclusive and annihilative instincts of Islam and even Christianity", and "surviving the Semitic onslaught"? (bolded, below)
The fact that many individual Hindus and Indian Muslims get along very well, and even intermarry, doesn't change what the BJP stands for.
Their party slogan is: "a nation of Hindu values"
In the early 1990's, the party led a campaign to remove a 16th century mosque, called Babri Masjid, and replace it with a Hindu temple. They claimed India’s Muslim conquerors built it in a sacred spot; the birthplace of the Hindu God Rama. 216.239.37.100
This would be as if the Likud party in Israel was campaigning to demolish the mosque on the Temple Mount, to clear the ground so they could rebuild the original Jewish Temple. Or as if the Republican Party in the U.S. campaigned to convert the Aya Sofya Mosque back into the Haga Sophia Church, and change the name of the city from Istanbul back to Constantinople (after we've done Regime Change in Turkey, and resurrected the Byzantine Empire).
On the BJP website, there is a fascinating article, called "Semitic Monotheism - The Root of Intolerance in India". Basically, they blame the Muslims (and Christians, too!) for all of India's (actually, the whole world's) problems. Excerpts:

If we look at the history of India and of its people on the one hand and at the history of Semitic societies on the other, we find a glaring difference. Out of such war within itself -- including between Christianity and Islam -- Semitic society evolved its centralist and exclusivist institutions that are now peddled as the panacea for the ills of all societies. As the monotheistic civilization rapidly evolved a theocratic state, it ruled out all plurality in thought...
It was only the later theocratic incursions by the Mughals and the British that introduced theological and cultural maladjustments, creating conflict between the assimilative and inclusive native ways of the East and the exclusive and annihilative instincts of Islam and even Christianity...

It originally promoted Islam and Islamic fundamentalism against the fanaticism of communism.
