Not a very inspiring message to the TOHOEs. Realistic yes, but definitely not inspiring.
Conservation: translate shut down large sectors of US industrial and ag capacity.
Fuel switching: use #2 crude oil, also in short supply, and imported from "safe sources" like Venz.
Final translation= economic train wreck

DOE sees limited ways to boost US natgas supply
Reuters, 06.09.03, 11:00 AM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Energy Department said it sees only "limited opportunities" to boost dwindling natural gas supplies over the next 12-18 months and called for more conservation and fuel-switching by utilities to head off a shortage, according to a letter released on Monday.

In a letter sent to 30 U.S. lawmakers on Friday, U.S. Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham said that agency analysis found only "limited opportunities" to boost supplies over the next 12-18 months. "Therefore the emphasis must be on conservation, energy efficiency and fuel switching," said the letter, addressed to Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle.
