<my point of separating people from politicians>

Those people voted the BJP into power. Your "point" is to disclaim responsibility for putting an overtly religious-based political party in power. And disclaim responsibility for their actions, before and after achieving power.

Do you think the BJP doesn't mean, or the Indian people don't understand, what is meant by this:

...only an inclusive Hindutva can assimilate an exclusive Islam by making the Muslims conscious of their Hindu ancestry and heritage. A national effort is called for to break Islamic exclusivism and enshrine the assimilative Hindutva...
bjp.org

I'm not making this up. This is from the BJP's own website, what they put there, to explain their own political philosophy. What they are saying is, they consider Muslims to be "lapsed Hindus", and their goal is to "assimilate" them back to Hinduism. Only then will they be loyal and equal citizens of India.

The people who founded the U.S. and India, understood very clearly, that democracy cannot survive, if the dominant political parties are based on religion, language, or race. That was why Gandhi tried so hard to stop partition. And that was what he was killed for, by men whose direct political descendants are now in power in India.
