Not having read the article, this doesn't make much sense to me. Adrenaline, and derivatives of it, are used for treating asthma, because they reverse bronchospasm, the tightening of the muscles surrounding the bronchioles. Straight adrenaline was the old, old, way. The newer drugs target the lungs while reducing side effects on the heart and nervous system. For upper airway stuff (croup, epiglottitis ,and ?"throat closing"), we use a racemic isomer of adrenaline.
