Marie, Interesting ideas on SiGe. When looking at what IBM and other big semi companies do you have to remember that VTSS has revenue of less than $100M p.a On this revenue stream you can only support a design team of 15 to 20 engineers, including process development.

At most semi companies $100M revenue would not be considered adequate to support a separate process development, it's a real chicken and egg problem, so SiGe and other exotics are only popular if you've found a DOD project to fund the game. However, if revenues double than things really start to change. I think we are right at that point where the revenues from this sector are high enough to show up on coporate radar screens.

I've found that Si stinks for doing 1.5GHz to 2GHz parts, but there are design techniques for coping with the problems you just have to learn them one at a time. New tools that are coming out of places like Berkley make it much easier to calculate all the parasitics so I think that we will start seeing a lot more RF designs being done in varous Si processes.
