>>It was not just Rafael that viewed the Taliban takeover favorably; almost everybody did. Just like we all liked Saddam back when he was fighting Iran<<

I have no idea who "we" includes but it doesn't include me. Nor did it at the time.

I know far too many people who were antagonistic to the Taliban, to Saddam, to the Iranian mullahs (including me), to lump all together the Taliban, Saddam, and the Iranian mullahs, into "people we like." As far as I know, "we" never liked the Taliban nor the Iranian mullahs, no matter what you may argue about Saddam - I say no genuine support for Saddam, but reasonable minds may differ there.

Maybe being Greek Orthodox changes your point of view? Greek Orthodox sort of supported Milosovic rather than supporting the US going into Kosovo, and tends to oppose the US reflexively, on almost every topic, just in principle. Greeks in general (like the rest of Europe) are opposed to the US, not just Greek orthodox.

As for the US planning on using the Ba'ath party to form the new Iraq, that's bullshit, plain and simple.
