re: (low quality house wiring & household dsl filters)
.
David,
.
Your post reminded me how i helped a friend that was getting
hard disk corruption errors just about every day after buying
a new pc that passes a long and rigorous test of its hardware.
.
Her internet connection was the telephone modem, but she
lived inside a huge apartment complex and was surrounded
with a zillion electrical appliances that when turned on & off
causes spikes(noise) in the electrical wiring during the phases
when the current starts & ends motors running the appliances.
.
The ones and zeros arrived o.k. from the telephone line,
but the electricity that entered her pc also passes through
other places like refrigerators doing their on/off cycles.
.
I put a good rating surge box between her pc and the power
and everyday disk errors went from every day to once a week.
Put another surge box in series, and all disk errors vanished.
.
When there were no surge boxes to her pc she would note that
the hard disk reported errors always at the same hours of the day,
and just like here on Si it was the early morning when the "world"
wakes up and starts using stuff using electricity :o)
.
Also, If a Black Hole collapse enough, will it explode?
