It depends on the price. If they're selling at a premium and you think they might be called, you might start moving them to longer redemption dated preferreds. However, many preferreds are at such unbelievable premiums where I would not buy at these prices. But not sure I want to sell my holdings either, since I generally bought the longer term preferreds before they were selling at a premium.

UDR-b selling at $27.29 comes to mind. 5.8% yield when you factor in the premium lost at redemption - in 4 years. At $25 purchase it is yielding me 8.6%, if I don't sell.

Only a handful are now trading at a discount, or close to redemption value -- usually of lower quality, but some Baa3 rated:

FR-d $25.5 moodys Baa3 redeemable now
HIW-b&d $24.86, Ba1, now
HMT-c $24,86, 2006
PPS-b $25.75, Baa3, 2007
