IBM, Infineon Develop New MRAM Technology >IBM IF
Tuesday June 10, 1:24 am ET

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM - News) and Infineon Technologies AG produced a 128kb Magnetic Random Access Memory, or MRAM, chip they claim is the smallest MRAM chip to date.
MRAM technology is widely expected to one day replace many of the memory types currently in use, such as DRAM, SRAM, and flash memory.

MRAM is smaller, faster and more energy efficient than current memory technologies, and because it stores information using magnetic charges instead of electrical ones, it is also able to remember stored data without a continuous power source.

In a joint press release Tuesday, IBM and Infineon said they hope to have an MRAM product demonstrator in 2004, and be ready for production in 2005.
